10/1/10 - New Month, Revised Diet!

In the thick of the diet, I'm going to need to change it up a bit. And rename it to Revised Paleo, or, as Darren likes to put it, F*** the Paleo Diet. Trying to decide which name to use as the Blog title... :-)

This diet is just causing too much stress, along with everything else going on in my life. It's been very interesting to follow this diet, but I really need to introduce some loving foods back into my life. I've been just too grumpy (and so obviously tied in with the diet) to make this continue to happen! When Heather (my brother's girlfriend) confirmed she was feeling the exact same way, and has been on the diet for the exact same amount of time as I have, I realized it was time to loosen up. Here's the plan:

I am still not going to drink alcohol, as I'm realizing this is a diet within itself. I might have a glass of wine or two (at the most) this weekend for Caitlyn's birthday (happy birthday Caitlyn!), and then turn to my favorite non-alcoholic drink; tonic and lime! But I have not drank alcohol for over a week now, and I'm just excited to experience life without it and the effects it might have on my body. If I drink this weekend, I am definitely planning on paying close attention to how my body feels afterward, to see if the wine has a positive or negative effect on my body and mind.

I will focus more readily on vegetables as part of my diet (do I get a side of bread? Then I definitely need a side of veggies). I have been so into carbs as my side, that I rarely got into veggies, but I'm really understanding how amazing they are! It's a great way to cut calories.

I will use processed foods in minimal doses for meals. If I'm having dinner, I will have meat, veggies, and a slice of french bread with olive oil.

I am still eliminating all dairy for the month.

I truly believe that eliminating dairy and alcohol for a month is a good enough diet for me! I am also excited to introduce little pieces of processed foods back into my diet to see what causes body or mind issues, so I know what to stay away from. This in itself will be a great exploration for me.

I'll continue to update my blog to show how everything is going!

9/30/10 - Not Sure about This!

Well, to be honest, this just isn't going as well as I thought it would. In fact, the results I was expecting based on what my personal trainers were telling me, are the exact opposite results of what I am experiencing. They said I'd be happier (I'm much more grumpy), I'd be more energetic (not really experiencing that; I feel depleted if I wait more than a few hours to have food), I'd have clearer skin (it's worse), and I'd sleep better (having a much harder time falling asleep - I usually fall asleep within 5 minutes of hitting the pill). On top of that, I am having the most vivid, intense dreams, which leave me feeling pretty frustrated and tired in the morning. With that said, here is what I ate today:

8 am - 2 eggs with olive oil
12 pm - Whole Foods Kielbasa with Veggie Mix, 2 strawberries, and a tall can of Coconut Juice (no pulp)
4 pm - 2 Dried, unsweetened Peach slices, and a few almonds and cashews
7 pm - Ground Turkey Scramble (with zucchini, onions, bell peppers, and carrots) with a few Trader Joe's pita crackers (I know I cheated, but I'm just getting my body isn't responding well to this diet, and I need to take a step back)

Tomorrow is a new day, and it will bring new changes to this diet!
9/29/10 - Feeling slightly defeated...depleted...?

I've stuck with the diet today, but I'm feeling a little defeated by my current "obsession" with bread. Timed with yesterday's bad mood and feeling weird, and then how good I felt after eating the Red Grape pizza, I have sort of psychologically associated bread (crust) with happiness, haha. Here is what I ate today:

10 am - 1 hard boiled egg, 1 date
12 pm - 1/2 chicken breast with pesto (no oil, no cheese)
2 pm - 1 hard boiled egg, Fuji apple
6 pm - Ground turkey patty (so juicy and good!) with spinach and two slices of tomato, and artichoke dipped in olive oil
7:30 pm - Craved sugar, went for a spoonful of almond butter... Kind of did the trick?!

Good night!
9/28/10 - This was an Intense day!!

Today is going down as the day that I bought a beautiful LEXUS HYBRID! Whoo hooo! Amazing, so beautiful. I don't know how I'm not outside driving it right now. Only problem that happened today was that I was unable to eat until 3 pm, and I was completely lethargic by the time I did! Oh, and since I was so lethargic by the time I ate, it just wasn't sufficient and I ended up cheating for dinner... I know, I know! But I feel oh so good now! See below:

7:30 am - 2 eggs with olive oil and pepper
12 pm - A couple nuts and seeds
3 pm - Veggie egg scramble a la Jake - 2 eggs, bell peppers, onions, sriracha sauce (yes, my cheating started here)
7 pm - Went to RED GRAPE! Yeah, I know. I ordered a pizza (at least with no cheese whatsoever), olives, artichokes, olives, garlic, spinach. Oh so friggin good. I was craving carbs so much, I just went for it. I was feeling so lethargic and grumpy, I was surprised how instantly I perked up! What a relief.

Oh, odd thing to note...Since about noon today, when I have eaten something, about a minute later, I get this weird bitter taste in the back of my throat...Has anyone out there experienced this before? If so, please e-mail me! I'm so weirded out by it.

9/27/10 - I haven't weighed this little since...middle school?!

Woke up this morning and decided to weigh myself to discover that I weigh 112 pounds. WHAT?! Even in high school, I weighed 118-120 pounds. I know weighing doesn't matter as body fat, and how your clothes fit, etc, but I'm still feeling pretty accomplished right now!! I can't believe how much FAT (good fat) I'm eating, and how I'm actually losing weight. SO amazing!! I think the loss of alcohol calories is helping, too... And the personal training!

9 am - 1 egg scramble with olive oil (steak, bell peppers, onions, green chili), fruit shake (blueberries, strawberries, coconut juice, apple juice)
Completely forgot what I ate midday :-( (is memory an issue on the Paleo Diet?)
7 pm - 1 filet of ahi tuna, seared cooked with dill, olive oil, and lemon. Fresh stir fry of veggies with coconut oil

9 am - 1 egg scramble with olive oil (onions, bell peppers, green chilies, steak), pepper to taste, fruit shake (blueberries, strawberries, coconut juice, 1 tbs protein powder)
1 pm - Lean (94/6) ground beef patty with 3 slices of tomato and fried egg on top, trail mix (cashews, pistachios, macadamia nuts, almonds, mango slices)
7 pm - My stepbro's 21st celebration! And I was sober... 1 NY Steak, romaine lettuce salad with olive oil and pepper to taste (borrrring)
9 pm - Felt a little stressed over the new muZen Ink apparel line, and went for a...piece of chocolate! YUMMY! Tasted soo good. Dark chocolate infused with lavender. So good, and so worth the cheat (hello, I'm not completely caveman).
Is it weird that I can already tell how salty food can be?!

9 am - Jess came over for breakfast! Heart you, lady! Made a scramble with chopped up: steak, bell peppers, onions, zucchini, and tomato, mixed with 4 eggs (split between two ladies). So good!
11 am - a couple almonds and cashews
2 pm - (after rigorous asana practice at teacher training) Two slices of processed turkey (oh, the salt) with pesto (no cheese, no oil - given!), and 8 asaparagus baked with garlic powder and pepper
8 pm - slice of white fish (can't remember the name, but it was oh so good! Reminded me halibut), and veggie stir fry with coconut oil, and a glass of grape juice/water. Cannot believe I forgot to take a picture! It looked sooo good!

Feeling GREAT! Had no cramping, and I felt really strong in my yoga practice! A little tired after, though.
This isn't hard at all! What are you all talking about?! :-) Just kidding, I have definitely had some (small) cravings for hummus, and pita bread... More to follow, I'm sure. Also, worth mentioning, I noticed about an hour ago some bad stomach cramping. It went away, but it was pretty painful. Not sure what that was about?

8 am - 1 sunnyside up egg with cracked pepper
11 am - 1/2 cup trail mix (cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts, dried mango, dried apricot)
12 pm - 1 apple, sliced wrapped in turkey slices (yes, cheating, as there is LOW sodium added)
3 pm - 2 tbs almond butter with celery stick (stomach cramping occurred about 5 minutes later)
7 pm - 1/2 NY steak chopped, stir-fried with asparagus, brocoli, carrots, onions, zucchini, 2 tbs coconut oil
